Painted this during two very short sittings on 23 and 25 Feb, 2007. It’s a picture of the mist-covered Tsangu (Tsomgo or Changu) Lake in my home-state Sikkim. Tso (lake) mgo (head) (meaning ‘source of the lake’ in the Bhutia language) is situated at an altitude of 12,400 ft (3,780m) and is about 35-40 kms away from Gangtok, 20 kms from Nathula pass and 400 kms from Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. The lake is 1 km long and 15 metres deep.
Took the photo below on June 1, 1998 when I visited the lake. The mountain mist spreading all over was beautiful. The lake is completely frozen in winter.
