CO-CHAIRS

Aliza Leventhal

Aliza is a full-time student in the dual degree Archives Management and History program. She studies urban, landscape and architectural history, and volunteers at the Cambridge Historic Commission archiving architect William L. Galvin’s life work. She received her bachelor’s degree in economics and American studies from Smith College in 2009. Aliza is interested in a career related to architecture materials, with particular passion for preservation, collective memory, and archival description. She sees SCoSAA as an opportunity for the GSLIS community to grow outside the classroom and become active members of the professional community, asking questions (big and small), and engaging in the LAM (Libraries, Archives and Museums) collaborative conversations. Outside of her archival and history interests, Aliza
enjoys reading Russian literature, baking, and adventuring around the greater-Boston area.

 

Rosalie Gartner

Rosalie is a second year student in the Archives Management program. Before attending Simmons College, she received her M.A. in History and French from Colorado State University. Afterwards she worked as an Office Manager for a very small company while getting ready to apply to grad school. She was raised in Colorado and is completely lost without the Rocky Mountains! Rosalie has lived in Boston for about a year, and loves wandering through the North End eating gelato with her husband. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, baking, hiking, and playing tennis. Rosalie is very excited for this year and meeting all the new SCoSAA members

The co-chairs:

• Schedule and moderate monthly meetings
• Coordinate events (field trips, workshops, panels) and volunteer opportunities
• Moderate SCoSAA e-mail acccount and listserv
• Act as student representatives to the archives faculty
• Attend GSLIS Orientation to speak with incoming archives students
• Order food for events

 

SECRETARY/ARCHIVIST

Michelle Chiles

Michelle is a second-year GSLIS student, concentrating in archives and also dabbling in academic libraries and user instruction. She earned bachelor’s degree in history and social studies at Western Washington University, before earning an M.A. in teaching from City University. Originally from Seattle, Washington, she has spent the last three years in Tasmania, Australia. While in Australia, Michelle volunteered at the state archives to gain experience before making the move to Simmons. In her free time, Michelle enjoys being outdoors, camping, hiking, etc. She is also very crafty, creating crochet projects, scrapbooking, and sewing. Michelle hopes to one day work in a library/archives where she can utilize her teaching skills (preferably at an institution dealing with natural history and/or science).

TREASURER

Jan Day

Jan is a graduate student in the Archives Concentration at Simmons GSLIS. She achieved a Bachelor of Arts in English from Nichols State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana in 2005, and worked for a number of years as a graphic designer and fine stationer in San Antonio, Texas. Her passion for preservation and cultural heritage brought her to Simmons and the archives concentration in 2011. She has worked on the collections of the Moakley Archive and Institute at Suffolk University, and her research areas of interest are: records management and information governance; long-term digital film curation; and outreach.

WEBMASTER

Elise Dunham

Elise is a second-year MLIS student in the Archives Management program at Simmons GSLIS. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri in 2011. It was a 1-year stint as a student worker in the Truman State University Archives/Special Collections Department that solidified her interest in pursuing her MLIS. After moving to Boston from St. Charles, Missouri, Elise began working as a Patron Services Assistant at the Social Law Library, and also volunteers as a blogger for the GSLIS Admissions Office. Elise’s professional interests have, of late, moved into the realms of metadata, emerging technologies, and records management. In her free moments, Elise enjoys exploring the city, being a Tumblarian, and trying to play the ukulele.
