Officers (2011-2012)

CO-CHAIRS

Amanda Strauss
Amanda Strauss - Co-chair Amanda is a full-time student in the dual degree Archives Management and History program. She studies womens history and works in the public services department of the Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America. Amanda has lived in Boston since July of 2010. Although she enjoys Boston, Amanda is not quite ready to call herself a New Englander (especially during the winter). She attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, and continued to live in the damp and beautiful Pacific Northwest for six years. She grew up in the stark desert climate of New Mexico and also lived and studied abroad in the beautiful port city of Valparaso, Chile (her favorite city in the world). One of her dreams is to work in a Spanish-language archives in the U.S. or abroad. She is interested in archival advocacy, archives of underrepresented populations, and the archivists role in international justice and human rights efforts. When she is not working or studying, Amanda can be found spending time with her husband and cat, baking, running, or reading. She thinks that the best study break is a trip to the New England Aquarium to see the penguins. Amanda is looking forward to the upcoming year and is excited to be one of the SCoSAA co-chairs.

Camille Torres
Camille Torres - Co-chair Camille Torres is a second-year student at Simmons College where she is pursuing an M.L.S. with a concentration in Archives Management. She was born and raised in western Massachusetts and, as a native of Massachusetts, loves all Massachusetts sport teams! Camille received a bachelors degree in history from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2005 and a masters degree in history from the University of Connecticut in 2008. She currently works part-time as an End Processing Assistant at the Schlesinger Library. Camille is very excited about the 2011-2012 school year and hopes to make SCoSAA a valuable resource for all students in the Library Science program! Camilles extracurricular activities include swimming, reading Russian history, watching the Food Network, and managing the Boston Borscht (her fantasy baseball team).

Her interest in archival studies and cultural heritage stem from both of these early endeavors. She currently interns at the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies Collection at Harvard University and is the President of Panopticon, a GSLIS student group concerning information studies in art, cultural heritage, and visual resources.

TREASURER

Sarah Funke Donovan
Sarah Funke Donovan - Treasurer Sarah Funke Donovan is pursuing an M.L.S. with an Archives concentration. She grew up in beautiful, sunny Colorado and misses the Rocky Mountains. After getting undergraduate degrees in Music and Philosophy from Covenant College near Chattanooga, Tennessee, she decided to move north for a couple of years and obtain an M.A. in Music Criticism from McMaster University, located in southern Ontario. There she quickly learned that Coffee Crisps are the best-kept Canadian secret. Sarah’s ultimate goal is to put all of her music education to good use as an archivist for a music institution, but she would be quite happy to work in a field related to her other interests: women’s history, social justice and children’s literature. She would also just be quite happy to work. When she is not studying or thinking about studying, Sarah is probably making something crafty.

Originally from Seattle, Washington, she has spent the last three years in Tasmania, Australia. While in Australia, Michelle volunteered at the state archives to gain experience before making the move to Simmons. New to the Boston area, she is excited to get out and explore hiking, camping, and other outdoorsy fun. She is also very crafty, creating crochet projects, scrapbooking, and sewing.
