  1. Welcome
    • Melissa Gonzales and Stephanie Call introduced the new officers
  2. Announcements
    • ARMA Update
      • Membership is $20 at the student rate
      • Monthly meetings are $20 per meeting, with the first meeting for a student being free
      • ARMA and Sedona holding workshops through out the fall at Simmons
    • LIS442 (Establishing Archives) can replace LIS404 (Principles of Management) starting in Spring, 2009
    • An additional section of LIS404 will be held on Saturdays in Spring, 2009
  3. Archives Career Panel
    • Will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
    • RSVP is required by October 24, 2008
    • Panelists include:
      • Nora Murphy, Reference Archivist at MIT
      • Megan Sniffin-Marinoff, University Archivist at Harvard
      • India Spartz, Senior Archivist at the Peabody Museum
      • Brenda Lawson, Director of Collections Services at the Massachusetts Historical Society
      • Donna Webber, Archivist for the Simmons Archives
    • New England Archivists and Careers Resources will have tables with information available
    • Time will be allotted to ask questions and students can submit questions beforehand to SCoSAA
    • Will be posted as a podcast afterwards
  4. Volunteer Opportunities
    • Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill
      • Kate Boylan, who works in the Development Office of the Beaver Country Day School and who is also a GSLIS student, wants to make the school archives more accessible for faculty and staff
      • Archival material was moved from a moldy basement to the library
        • material in the collection includes photographs and ephemera
        • dates back to when the school was founded in 1920
      • Seeking two to three people to help update finding aids, conduct an inventory and other work
      • Contact either SCoSAA or Kate Boylan at the school (bcdschool.org) for more information
    • Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras
      • Organization is celebrating its 50th Anniversary
      • Need two volunteers to set up the archives, where material is totally unprocessed
  5. SCoSAA Website and Presentation
    • Goal for the new website is to increase accessibility to important resources for archives students
    • Tim Gladson and the Web Committee presented two versions of the website, one vertically aligned and one horizontally aligned
    • All members were invited to critique the website before going live
    • Tim Gladson is working with Jeannette Bastian to post syllabi for archives courses
  6. Upcoming Events & Field Trips
    • Boston Athenum
      • Tim Gladson will work with his supervisor to setup a tour, including the conservation labs
      • Date is uncertain, but will be in the afternoon, after 3:00 p.m.
    • John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum tour will most likely be the week of November 17, 2008.
    • Mount Auburn Cemetery tour on November 6, 2008
      • Tour will be with Brian Sullivan
      • Possible brown bag luncheon
      • Possible ride to the cemetery for the first six people to contact SCoSAA regarding the trip
    • Project Save on December 2, 2008
      • Project Save is an archive devoted to promoting Armenian History through photographs
      • Archivist will lead a discussion on how to read photographs
