We are proud to announce that we will have TWO tours coming up! At the MIT Institutional Archives on Wednesday, October 17th, 2012, at 5:00 PM, and at the JFK Presidential Library & Museum on Thursday, October 25th, 2012, at 1:30 PM. Space is limited for both tours, so please be respectful of your peers and only pick one tour.
MIT Institute Archives:
This is less of a physical behind-the-scenes and more of an information session about how an institutional archives functions.
Starting at 5:00 PM, Nora Murphy, the Archivist for Reference, Outreach, and Instruction, will talk about the Institute Archives and Special Collections, their holdings, use of off-site storage, their users and how their materials are used, how they communicate with researchers and what kind of outreach they do. This will be a great opportunity to ask a professional about any of those areas and at the end everyone will have an opportunity to visit the Maihaugen Gallery next door to the archives’ reading room! This event will probably last between 1-1.5 hours.

JFK Presidential Library & Museum:
This is more of a physical tour, that will also touch on a variety of topics including: the archivists responsibilities for processing, digitization, oral histories, and declassification. This event will last for closer to 2 hours, with the possibility of going longer. There is a good chance you will be able to visit the Museum while on site!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact Rosalie or Aliza, especially if you are thinking about submitting a paper proposal for the 2013 Symposium!
