This Week @ SLIS 11/30 to 12/4

Monday November 30th:

    *ASIS&T – Coders Without Borders
    6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Collaboratory (P-314)
Bi-weekly event where LIS (and CS) students can get together to work on non-school related projects.

Friday December 4th:

*Panel Discussion: Advocacy for Digital Projects
    1:30 pm – 2:30 pm – Collaboratory
In anticipation of the unveiling of the Blanche Castleman Link Digital Scrapbook on December 11, the LIS 462 Digital Libraries class is hosting a panel discussion on how to advocate for digital projects to potential stakeholders, in preparation for students facing graduation and entering the field of digital services. Digitization is not just an add-on: it’s fundamental to what we do! Come find out why.
The discussion, “Advocacy for Digital Projects,” will be this coming Friday, the 4th, in the Collaboratory from 1:30pm-2:30pm. Panelists include Maggie Anderson, our Digital Blanche Project Manager; Peter Botticelli; Candy Schwartz; and Tom Blake (!!!), Digital Projects Manager at the BPL.

    *SoCS – MetaMixer
    7:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Sweet Cheeks
SoCS is reaching out to Greater Boston and New England LIS professionals of color and working to connect students entering the profession with more opportunities for development. Join us at our first event, the MetaMixer, a social hour event for students, alumni, and professionals of color, hosted by SoCS at Sweet Cheeks — 1381 Boylston St, Boston, MA 02215 on Friday, December 4th at 7 pm. Contact Gabrielle Womack with any questions at [email protected].

Save the Date: Friday December 11th

*LISSA End of the Semester Party
    5:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Kotzen Room
LISSA invites you all to our “end of semester” event on Friday, December 11th from 5-8 PM in the Kotzen Room. For the first hour, we will have a scavenger hunt. We will meet in the Kotzen Room for instructions and then venture off, in teams of up to 5 people, and at least one of them will need to have either a smart phone or digital camera to record items found. Then we will return to the Kotzen Room, announce the winners, and have food and a great party. We hope to see you there!
