Rwanda Summer Course Info Sessions

Join Professors Lisa Hussey and Nannette Vielleux for an information session to discuss a new service learning course in Rwanda, mid-May through mid-June, 2019. The course is open to SLIS and CS students, and will provide field work opportunities for library, archival, and technology students. Join via GoToMeeting here.

Tech Workshop: Usability Lab Overview

This workshop will cover basic concepts of user experience and usability testing, including the common testing procedures and tools. In the second half of the workshop we will feature a tour of the COCIS Usability Lab and a hands-on exercise of usability testing with Morae software.

Identity and Community Archives: A Discussion with Jen LaBarbera

Spectra and SCoSAA are co-hosting a talk with Jen LaBarbera via GoToMeeting. Jen spent three years as the Head Archivist at Lambda Archives of San Diego, where she collected, preserved, and taught the LGBTQ history of San Diego, the Imperial Valley, and northern Baja California. The focus of this discussion will be on community archives and identity.

Tech Workshop: Collaboration with Google Apps

In this workshop you will learn how to collaborate online with Google Drive and Google Groups. We will create online forums and forms, and show you how to share calendars and docs. Faculty and Staff are encouraged to attend!

Want to see the skull of Phineas Gage? Come join SLA@Simmons on a tour of the Francis A. Countway Library of Medicine. Harvard University’s Countway Library of Medicine is one of the largest medical libraries in the world and is a ten minute walk from Simmons University. Meet us in the lobby of the Palace Road building at 3:10 and we can walk over together or we’ll see you at the Countway at 3:30! Eventbrite.

Vegan Potluck with Chilis on Wheels

What do information literacy, food justice, and consistent anti-oppression have in common? That is what we will be discussing at our lovely vegan potluck! Joining us will be Xavier, a representative from Chilis on Wheels, a local organization that promotes accessible veganism through workshops, food shares, and mentoring. If you are bringing something (including non-food items like plates or napkins), please fill out this brief google form. If you are not bringing anything, just bring yourself and an appetite.

Panel on International Librarianship and Libraries in Iraq

Located in downtown Boston, Philanthropy MA is a nonprofit that works with their members to help with grant research and funding.
