OCR – Optical Character Recognition

  • Want to make digital copies of documents? I don’t mean just snapshots, I mean real honest duplicates, with text that can be selected, copied, and read by your computer. OCR (Optical character recognition) software is the fastest and most effective way to generate machine actionable documents from their paper counterparts! Our workshop will help orient you in the world of OCR so you will be able to take this great tool and use it for your own archive, digital library, or even your own personal collection. Prison Book Program

Brought to you by PLG(Progressive Librarians Guild) 10pm-4pm, 1306 Hancock St Ste 100, Quincy, Massachusetts 02169
  • Join PLG for our final volunteer session of the semester! We will be volunteering with the Prison Book Program to provide books and informational materials to incarcerated people in need. Volunteer hours are from 10AM-4PM, but we will be meeting in the lobby of Palace Road Building at 10AM to travel to the site together. You can also meet us there at any time during the volunteer hours. You do not need to stay the entire time! Prison Book Program’s address is 1306 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA 02169, which is just steps away from the Quincy Center stop on the Red Line. There are usually some snacks shared with volunteers, but we encourage everyone to bring a lunch or snacks and water when volunteering.

Massachusetts Feminist Zine Fest

The first ever Massachusetts Feminist Zine Fest will be held on April 21-22! Over 30 zinesters will be tabling and workshops will be offered throughout the day, and WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! Panopticon Art Show

  • SLIS Panopticon is excited to announce our end of semester Art Show for Spring 2018 on Friday, April 27, 2018! We are accepting submissions for the show from all interested students, faculty and staff until April 13th. Our intent is to create a fun and casual event open to all members of our community. The night is also a way to come together and celebrate the coming of spring and the end of another semester. All are encouraged to participate, and no one will be turned away or judged for quality or content. We will accept ANY medium. Light refreshments will be served. How to submit: Please email the required metadata in bold below to [email protected] in a new thread with ART SHOW in the subject line. We’ll update with a physical drop off time and location prior to the show, but would like April 13th to be the (soft) deadline to submit your information.

SLA Tour: Suffolk County House of Corrections

April 24th, 12pm-3pm, Brought to you by SLA (Special Library Association)
  • Come tour the South Bay House of Corrections library with SLA@Simmons! We will meet at noon in the lobby of the Palace Road building and head over to the SCHC together for a tour beginning at 1pm. Please RSVP on the Eventbrite as space on this tour is limited and attendees must fill out a form (accessible on the Eventbrite) in order to attend!
