It’s take Back the Night Week! Check out all of the awesome events happening this week!
Once again, all SLIS students are allowed to attend any of these events, regardless of membership status in our groups, or professional organizations. Come network, socialize, and build new skills!
Next week is National Library Week! Stay tuned to plan ahead for all of the fun!

Monday, April 2:

Surviving #MeToo: When Activism Work is Your Life

Brought to you by Colleges of the Fenway and Northeastern. 6pm-7:30pm, Kotzen Room
  • Join us for this workshop facilitated by Activist and Educator, Aida Manduley! Aida will speak with an intersectional lens to survivors who are balancing their own personal experiences with trauma with their involvement in anti-violence activism. They will discuss self care and preservation when doing activism work that is highly personal, honoring survivors stories in intentional and trauma-informed ways, as well as providing tips for ally’s to get involved in anti-violence activism.

Zine Making Workshop with Dawn Stahura

Brought to you by A Heart That Becomes True 10am-3pm, Student Activities Center (MCB)
  • Join us for a community zine (self published magazine) making event, to design and contribute pages to our 2018 Take Back the Night- themed zine! Use poetry, writing, art, collage work, etc. to spread your anti-violence message and elevate the voices of survivors! Supplies will be provided and the zine will be printed and handed out at Thursday’s Take Back the Night Survivor Speak Out!

Sanaa with Friends Paint Night Healing Space

Brought to you by Colleges of the Fenway and Northeastern. 6pm-8pm, Faculty/Staff Dining Room (MCB near the Fens)
  • This event is centering multicultural and PoC student survivors, and will serve as a creative healing space as part of our Take Back the Night Week of Action! Supplies will be provided. *This event has a 20 person limit, so first come first serve. This is not a drop in event. Please plan to be present for the full event and arrive on time.

March Sign Making Events

  • Join us for one of two sign making events to create signs that speak out against sexual and intimate partner violence, which you can plan to carry during the Take Back the Night march on Thursday! Supplies will be provided.

  • Want to create your own LibGuide, but don’t know where to start? Come join us in the Tech Lab for a tutorial on the latest version of the LibGuide platform! We will cover the basics of setting up a guide, as well as adding and managing content. You will have a chance to get started on your own guide during the workshop! RSVP here!

Take Back the Night Gathering, March, and Survivor Speak-Out

  • Gathering on the Simmons Residential Quad, followed by march throughout Fenway neighborhood, and open-mic style survivor speak out in room C103 in the Main College Building at Simmons College (300 The Fenway)All COF and Northeastern Students are invited to attend our annual COF-wide march and survivor speak out to end sexual and intimate partner violence and elevate the voices of survivors. If you are unable to participate in the march, you are welcome to join us at the speak out at 7:45pm. Survivors and Allies are welcome.*Content Warning: Topics related to sexual and intimate partner violence will be discussed.

Build Your Own Aromatherapy Kit

Brought to you by Colleges of the Fenway and Northeastern 11am-3pm, Kotzen Room
  • As a way to close out our 2018 Take Back the Night Week of Action, we will be hosting a survivor self care event focused on ‘reconnecting with the five senses’. Join us to make an aromatherapy kit that will engage all of your senses, and help you to feel more grounded. Supplies will be provided. *Allergen warning: We will be using essential oils to make aromatherapy supplies.

SLIS After Dark

April 19, School of Library and Information Science
  • Join SLIS Alumni for their annual business meeting followed by a networking reception. The business meeting will be held from 5:30 – 6 PM in MCB C101, with a brief talk by this year’s SLIS Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient. A networking reception will follow from 6 – 7:30 PM on the 2nd floor of the Beatley Library. You can attend one of both events. It is $10 per student. Massachusetts Feminist Zine Fest

April 21& 22 LISSA (Library and Information Science Student Association), Panopticon, and Beatley Library
The first ever Massachusetts Feminist Zine Fest will be held on April 21-22! Over 30 zinesters will be tabling and workshops will be offered throughout the day, and WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! If you’re interested in helping out in any way, please submit your information to the form here and we’ll be in touch about what you can do to assist us at the Fest.

Panopticon Art Show

  • SLIS Panopticon is excited to announce our end of semester Art Show for Spring 2018 on Friday, April 27, 2018! We are accepting submissions for the show from all interested students, faculty and staff until April 13th.

    Our intent is to create a fun and casual event open to all members of our community. The night is also a way to come together and celebrate the coming of spring and the end of another semester. All are encouraged to participate, and no one will be turned away or judged for quality or content. We will accept ANY medium. Light refreshments will be served.

    How to submit: Please email the required metadata in bold below to [email protected] in a new thread with ART SHOW in the subject line. We’ll update with a physical drop off time and location prior to the show, but would like April 13th to be the (soft) deadline to submit your information. Here is the metadata we require from artists:

    • Artist name (optional! You can submit anonymously, too):
    • Image (please attach 1 – 2):

If your work is a performance or requires other equipment to display, that will probably be fine, just get in touch with us to discuss it further.
