- Why special libraries? I enjoy working in special libraries, especially with the feral government. There is so little I know about federal libraries and how much of an impact they have, I want to learn as much as possible! Especially when it comes to defense and our military.
- What are your plans after graduation? To gain full time employment in a special library
- Fun Fact: I love smelling books...it is so bad, strangers stare at me while I smell books in a book store. I should probably just stop. But I won't.

- Why special libraries? I enjoy working in a business environment, the collections are more focused and the patrons usually have high expectations. Working in special libraries is a fun challenge!
- What are your plans after graduation? To gain full time employment in a special library and start training to ride a century (a 100 mile bike ride).
- Fun Fact: I'm originally from Minnesota and have the accent to prove it!

How far in the program are you: I am a little more than halfway through with the program.
Anticipated graduation date: Fall 2016
Why special libraries?: Special Libraries being such broad category, offers opportunities to work in wide variety of settings. Settings that can be very similar or quite divorced from the traditional idea of what a library looks like. Each of these settings comes with unique and interesting challenges that make force the librarian to think outside the box, they also offer the chance to apply LIS skills in places people wouldn’t usually think they belong.
Plans after graduation: Find full time employment where I can use my LIS skills to their full extent! Hopefully it’ll be in Boston, but if not I’m always up for an adventure to somewhere new.
Fun Fact: I am a big map and Star Wars nerd.
Ola Canty – SLA Treasurer

- How far in the program are you - 1st semester
- Anticipated graduation date - Spring 2017
- Why special libraries? Having worked in a corporate environment, I can understand why corporations and other organizations would care to retain their history and records beyond being prepared for audits. I foresee increased demand for librarians and archivists in these organizations, and I want to be ahead of the curve.
- What are your plans after graduation? I just started the program, so I am still getting to learn the many possibilities. But, I am drawn to digital preservation and conservation.
- Fun/Funny fact? I like to re-read and re-watch all of the Harry Potter books and movies every few years 🙂

Welcome to Spring term 2015!
SLA@Simmons is gearing up for some great events this term! On Feb. 3rd, we will be hosting Resume X, a speed-dating style resume review from 6-8pm. We will pair SLIS students with information professionals to go over cover letters and resumes. This is a great networking opportunity, food and drinks will be provided. Students: register at Eventbrite. We have a few more spots for professionals as well!
We will also be hosting a professional panel, a field trip, and an end of year party.
