SLA Annual Conference

We are getting so excited for the SLA National Conference in June!  There are many resources that students can use to attend this amazing conference.  Our partners at SLA NE have put together a list of scholarships, stipends, and awards for students.  There are also volunteer opportunities for students to attend for free (apply by March 27th).

Simmons students can apply for funds from LISSA for professional development, the deadline to apply is March 5th at 7pm.  LISSA awards up to $300 in professional development costs… YOU could use this to pay for the student rate to attend SLA's annual conference ($205) and a student membership to SLA ($40).

Why should you attend the SLA Annual Conference?

SLA members are real leaders in their organizations and in the field of information science. The annual conference is one of the best ways to get real insight into best practices and new trends in LIS.  There are over 100 educational sessions that explore the latest trends in gathering, organizing, analyzing and sharing information and knowledge AND unparalleled networking opportunities with thousands of information professionals.  The keynote speaker is Leigh Gallagher, Assistant Managing Editor at Fortune magazine.

Check out the online planner for a list of all sessions including:

  • 3D Printing
  • Higher Education
  • Competitive Intelligence
  • Data Visualization
  • Leadership and Management
  • Knowledge Management
  • Prospect Research
  • Legal Research
  • Taxonomy
  • User Experience
This is an incredible opportunity for new and upcoming LIS professionals.  I hope to see you there!  Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have at [email protected]

President - SLA@Simmons

Hi guys,

My name is Christine Moua (Chris). I became the new SLA-Student Chapter Webmaster just a week ago. This will be my second semester at Simmons in the LIS-General Track program. I currently am a Access Services Library Assistant/night and weekend supervisor at the SMFA-Library and I am also an intern at Bain & Company Inc.

I am originally from Lancaster, PA and moved up to Boston to attend Simmons. I am loving Boston so far! I love the history, museums, libraries, even the snow. I love exploring the city, rock-climbing (the fake kind, would love to do the real thing), eating, running, traveling, basically anything. I am up to trying new things.

I am really excited to be joining this student chapter. We have an amazing team and I am looking forward to meeting all the members and working with them to bring you guys an awesome and eventful semester 🙂

Best,
Chris

p.s. I also LOVE Harry Potter!
