Dr. Wiegand presents the research for his latest—and highly-regarded—book, Part of Our Lives: A People’s History of the American Public Library, to show major functions of public libraries that have been overlooked and undervalued, for centuries, for their contributions to the daily lives of public library users. Dr. Wiegand wants SLIS students to tell him where he’s wrong! Specifically, where one of his articles is wrong. Grab a bagel and join an informal discussion on Dr. Wiegand’s article, “Tunnel Vision and Blind Spots Reconsidered: Part of Our Lives as a Test Case,” and pick it apart at Dr. Wiegand’s request. Where do you disagree with him on this revisit of his seminal article? The article is available online via Simmons library and physical copies are available in the SLIS student lounge.

At the February faculty meeting, the assessment committee introduced a proposal for a revised course evaluation form. Our intention is to collect feedback from the community (faculty, staff, and students) over the next month and have a final draft to vote on at the March faculty meeting. The Diversity, Equity, Race, Accessibility, and Identity in LIS (DERAIL) Forum is a student-organized event to bring SLIS students together to discuss how systemic forms of oppression operate within LIS, and how social justice frameworks can guide our work as students and practitioners. Registration is live and DERAIL has extended its deadline for proposals through March 6, 2016.
