About

What is LISSA?

The Library and Information Science Student Association (LISSA) is an umbrella student organization that exists to represent and support all students in the SLIS program at Simmons. Every active SLIS student is automatically a member of LISSA. All students may attend meetings, choose to run for office and/or participate in LISSA sponsored events. Elections are held yearly or every semester. For more information about the structure of LISSA and its organization see the LISSA Constitution and Bylaws.

What is LISSA doing for me?

  • Works with other student associations including: ALA-SC, AMIA, ASIST, SCoSAA, SCIRRT, SLA Student Chapter, MSLA-SIG, Panopticon, UXPA, and the PLG Student Chapter. (Navigate to the Student Associations page for more information about these acronyms and the groups they represent.)
  • Reimburses students’ professional development costs up to $250 per year, covering costs such as chapter membership fees, library-oriented workshops, and conference attendance
  • Maintains a collection of graduation regalia available for students to rent free of cost
  • Voices student concerns to faculty and administration through the President and Faculty Representatives
  • Plans SLIS events such as beginning and end-of-semester parties, tours, field trips, and guest speakers
  • Conducts online semester-end class evaluations (please remember to complete yours, and contact Elizabeth Mitchell at [email protected] should any issues arise)
  • Provides coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and spring water to the Matarazzo Student Lounge (P-212G)

LISSA welcomes suggestions from the student body for programs, activities, and events!
