Information Improvisation – 2/16

Join LISSA for a highly interactive 90-minute workshop to learn improvisational (improv) techniques that will assist you in improving your communication skills in professional LIS settings. Practice skills needed for successful team building, communication, and interviewing. Engage with fellow attendees in a supportive and fun environment. Food will be provided.
Participants will:
  • Apply improv strategies to enhance communication skills
  • Participate in activities connected to various LIS settings, including reference work, presentations, and job interviews
  • Practice responding confidently in an uncertain environment
  • Identify ways to become a better listener and address barriers to listening when feeling put on the spot
  • Develop comfort in unexpected situations and awkward moments

This event is facilitated by Jake Livengood, who works at MIT Career Services and trained at Improv Asylum in Boston.

Participants should expect to participate in improv comedy exercises with attendees.

BIO

Jake partners with graduate students at MIT for career and professional development and has worked in higher education since 2002 as an instructor, career advisor and administrator. He received the MIT Infinite Mile Award for Innovation and Creativity for developing and facilitating improv workshops to help with training and professional development. He is a graduate of the Improv Asylum Training Center in the North End of Boston. With the last name “Livengood,” this career path is quite fitting.
