Accessibility, Usability & UX: Towards an Inclusive Design – 11/28/16

UXPA@Simmons will hosting an exciting talk on web accessibility and user experience. The talk is titled “Accessibility, Usability & UX: Towards an Inclusive Design” and will be taking place on November 28th from 3 to 4pm in the Tech Lab classroom (P-213). The speakers will be Christopher LaRoche and Katherine Wahl.

Overview

Making Web content and information available to the widest possible audience is important from both a legal and a business standpoint. Often accessibility guidelines can be overwhelming, confusing, and difficult to understand and implement.

In this presentation, we will examine the key principles of Web accessibility and how they relate and overlap with usability and the user experience, including an opportunity to explore evaluation techniques and tools.

Speaker Bios

Christopher LaRoche works as a user experience consultant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His works focuses on researching and evaluating the accessibility & usability of Web sites and software. His interest also includes promoting inclusive design.

Katherine Wahl works as an internal usability/accessibility consultant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where she has worked for the last seven years on a range of projects from small Web sites to enterprise wide applications. Her recent work focuses on usability and accessibility research and evaluation using a variety of methods.
