Peter Suber At Simmons for Open Access Week

On Wednesday, October 20th from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., Open Access advocate Peter Suber will be speaking in room M501 of the School of Management building.? Currently a Berkman Fellow at Harvard, Suber also serves as the Open Access Project Director at Public Knowledge.? In addition to his work on Open Access, Suber has taught philosophy, computer science, and law at Earlham College. His research focuses on how policy and technology can foster research, as well as the real and potential impact of the Internet on scholarly communication.
His talk on Wednesday will include a discussion of the Open Access Tracking Project as well as a Q&A session. The Open Access Tracking Project uses tagging to identify developments in the Open Access movement in real time.

Open Access @ Harvard’s DASH
Last February, the Faculty of Arts & Sciences at Harvard University voted unanimously in favor of an open access mandate.
Now Harvard’s online Open Access Repository, Digital Access to Scholarship at Harvard (DASH) has made its beta launch. DASH is built on the open source DSPACE repository project, and Harvard’s researcher social networking platform,?Profiles.
There are currently over 1500 items in DASH, with new material being added all the time. In addition to the Faculty of Arts & Sciences, Harvard Law School, the John F. Kennedy School of Government, and the Harvard Graduate School of Education have also signed on to the open access mandate and will begin contributing work to the repository.
