Welcome to our website! SLA@Simmons is the Simmons University student chapter of the Special Library Association, located in Boston, MA. We host events for students who are interested in careers in special libraries and alternative information science paths. See our Bylaws here.
What is a Special Library? Special libraries are institutions that work outside the realm of public, school, and general academic libraries. Examples of areas in which special libraries/librarians work include: biotech/pharma, competitive intelligence, cultural heritage, knowledge management, law, medical, military, museums, records management, solo librarians, tech start-ups, and more. It's a vast and diverse group of folks supported by SLA.
SLA@Simmons works very closely with SLA New England to provide access to an array of panels, lectures, dine-arounds, and networking opportunities. In the past, officers and members have been sent to the annual SLA meeting (all expenses paid!) and have gained valuable contacts and experience through involvement.
We maintain an online presence on Facebook and Twitter (@SLASimmons) to keep our members informed about upcoming events, new developments in the profession, and job opportunities.
