If you missed our VR Research Demonstration and Discussion event, you can now watch a recording of it below. Attendees viewed clips of interactions and discussions between experts in virtual reality that took place in AltspaceVR. We then shared our opinions on topics such as the benefits and drawbacks to meeting in virtual reality as opposed to through video conferences. Check out the clips in the video and let us know your thoughts on the points brought up.

Upcoming Event: VR Research Demonstration and Discussion

Join UXPA@Simmons for a demonstration and discussion of social interactions in the AltspaceVR platform. The event will be hosted on Zoom. We will analyze virtual interactions from some of the leaders in the field of VR research and discuss the implications for future research. We will also have discuss their statements on the pros and cons and socializing in VR spaces, VR ethics, women in gaming, and more.

All students and faculty are welcome to bring lunch and participate in the discussion. The first ten student attendees will each receive a free $10 Amazon gift card!

This event is free, but please register in order to attend. We will send out a Zoom link to registered attendees before the event.

Giveaway Eligibility & Selection Protocol

The first ten student attendees to join the Zoom session at the time of the event will be contacted after the event via email and offered a free $10 Amazon e-gift card. UXPA@Simmons board members are not eligible to win.

VR Dialogue Recap

Thank you to everyone who attended our VR Dialogue with Dr. Lukasz Porwol on October 16th!

Dr. Porwol and the UXPA@Simmons faculty adviser, Dr. Catherine Dumas, began the event in AltspaceVR. They presented an overview of the features and benefits of holding meetings in virtual reality, as well as the current limitations of the technology. Future directions and current research topics were also covered. Attendees then had a chance to discuss the technology with Dr. Porwol and ask questions.

Open House Event Recap

Thank you to everyone who attended the Open House Event on Thursday, February 22. Attendees learned about UXPA and the field of user experience. They also heard from Yeseul Song a new media artist and UX Researcher. Yeseul worked as a user experience researcher in industrial and academic settings. She studied Library and Information Science at Yonsei University and Simmons College, and currently pursuing a master’s degree at New York University’s Interactive Telecommunication Program (ITP). She gave an alternative view into user experience and helped attendees expand their imaginations.

UXPA Open House & Talk with New Media Artist and UX Researcher Yeseul Song

Hello and Welcome Back SLIS Students!

We have a lot of exciting events planned for this semester and hope you can join us.

Our first event this semester will be held on Thursday, February 22, from 4-5:30 p.m. in P-314.

All are invited to the UXPA Open House & Talk with New Media Artist and UX Researcher Yeseul Song.

Mingle with fellow classmates while you enjoy food and drinks and learn about the user experience field. A brief information session about who UXPA is and the field of user experience in relation to LIS will kick off the event followed by a talk by Yeseul Song.

Yeseul is a Korean-born new media artist and researcher based in New York. She combines art, design, and technology to create new sensory experience and open up people’s imagination. Her artwork has been shown at Mana Contemporary among others and recognized by Lumen Prize, Communication Arts Interactive Competition, and iF Design Award. 
 
Formerly, she worked as a user experience researcher in industrial and academic settings. She studied Library and Information Science at Yonsei University and Simmons College, and currently pursuing a master’s degree at New York University’s Interactive Telecommunication Program (ITP).
