Project Oneness World aims to help people realize the oneness among us, even through we all are different in unique ways. The idea is not to homogenize or to wish away difference, but to see difference as essential in realizing the oneness – for we all have different experiences based on the time and space that we have traveled through and lived in, and the people that we have connected with, but we all have the same longing to be loved, respected, to be accepted, to fit in, as well as to stand out, and to carve a unique space for ourselves in the world.
A documentary on happiness that explored what makes people happy came up with three answers: 1) connection – the quality of relationships that people have and experience; 2) personal growth – things that people do to grow, learn and to excel; and 3) service – thinking beyond themselves; being useful to other people; doing something to help improve the human condition. All the three individually, as well as in combination, help determine our happiness.
- Connection: We become unhappy when we feel disconnected. Project Oneness World will help us feel connected by realizing the oneness of all human beings in the world, and to see the basic humanity in each person, even though we might come from different backgrounds, countries and may have different ethnicities, gender, race, religion, sexual preference, age, experience, profession, etc.
- Personal growth: When people strive for excellence in a certain sphere – be in fine arts or painting, dance or music, photography, science, research, education, etc., they bring out the best in themselves and inspire others to follow their dreams and to succeed. Project Oneness World will bring forward the stories of people who persevere.
- Service: The United Nations has set 17 sustainable development goals covering a broad range of social and economic development issues, including poverty, hunger, health, education, climate change, gender equality, water, sanitation, energy, urbanization, environment and social justice. Project Oneness World will seek to list people and organizations working towards these goals, and help them connect with each other for greater knowledge sharing. The Project proposes to interview people working towards improving the human condition.
