About the Project

The scrapbook of Ruth Dorcas Gates is just one of many that have been digitized by graduate students from the LIS462 Digital Libraries course, taught by Professor Candy Schwartz, in the School of Library and Information Science at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. Collectively known as the “Notable Women of Simmons College Digital Scrapbook Collection”, these scrapbooks represent women who studied at Simmons College throughout the first half of the twentieth century. The items have been carefully digitized, described, and contextualized to carry the memories of these women into the future.

LIS462 Class, Spring 2017

This portion of the NWS Digital Scrapbook Collection was digitized by twenty-four students from the Spring 2017 semester of the Digital Libraries graduate course. The class worked in nine separate committees while also collaborating across committee boundaries, led by a very capable project manager. Together they produced a thoughtful and attractive digital scrapbook which was contributed to the Notable Women of Simmons College Digital Scrapbook Collection.
