The motto of the school was &#8220;Learn to serve&#8221;. I believe<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 32;\">it is in one&#8217;s selfish interest to be selfless<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>A service obligation is built into the life of an academic, which includes service to the school, the college and the profession. I&#8217;ve held leadership positions in Special Interest Groups (SIGs) of the American Society for Information Science &amp; Technology (ASIS&amp;T) and, as of January 2013, am a member of the ASIS&amp;T board in my capacity as the Deputy Director of the Chapter Assembly. I was awarded the ASIS&amp;T James M. Cretsos Leadership Award for 2012.
