Project Details
In 2014 the Massachusetts Archives digitized a selection of documents related to anti-slavery petitions and abolitionist issues. Since then they have been stored on an external hard-drive and have never been meaningfully processed or described. The Intern would be processing these records to be ingested into the MA Archives' digital vault, where they can be viewed and access by the public online and where they will be preserved for the future. Processing includes: review of digital files, arrangement of digital files, description/creation of metadata, preparation for ingest.
Intern would be expected to process and arrange the digitized files. Intern would then describe and create metadata for approximately 50gb worth of material using Dublin Core standards and Excel. Intern would then transform that data using Python into xml records to prepare for ingest to database. Intern would also have the chance to see how a digitization project works from start to finish and learn about the long term preservation of digital records.
This project is on-site and not available for remote work. Archive hours are M-F 8:30am to 4:30pm.
