Project Details
The Calmar Steamship Company was a subsidiary shipping company for Bethlehem Steel, founded in 1927. The shipping company operated cargo vessels that transported company products company products from the Atlantic/East coast to the Pacific/West coast, carrying lumber on the return trip. This small collection of one linear foot or one box of items includes a flag attributed to the steamship PORTMAR, as well as ship blueprints, reports, crew lists, and ship logs. They represent a snapshot of US shipping and ports before containerization. These materials were given by a representative of the company in 1975, but remain unprocessed. The intern will assist in arranging and describing the material, rehousing where necessary, and produce a finding aid if possible.
