Project Details
Archival Project for Intern Phyllis Pawa - Fall 2024
This project would involve our full collection archival processing for the Deborah Balfour collection within the Office of the First Lady: Projects Office. White House East Wing staff within the Projects Office worked with the special programs and projects for First Lady Nancy Reagan including the “Just Say No” program, the Foster Grandparents, and in this collection, the International Drug Abuse Conference of First Ladies held in Sweden, and a follow-up UN Conference in New York City.
Project will include:
• Determining true provenance in a Federal Records Center (FRC) box
• Arranging the collection into series
• Preparing the full collection material archivally (3.5 cubic feet): removing metal, mounting small pieces of paper on archival bond, sleeving previously metalled material, placing in archival folders, labeling folders and placing in archival boxes.
• Preparing series and collection descriptions
• Preparing a biography of Ms. Balfour
• Entering all collection information on our Inventory Access database and transferring that information into the web page for the Balfour collection on our Library website
• Preparing the information on the collection for entry in the National Archives Catalog
• Prepping the material for digitization: creating metadata, coordinating the labelling with the National Archives Catalog IDs
• Scanning the collection
• Uploading the material to our website and creating links for the folders to the digitized content.
