LIS 512 Mass Book Trails internship, Massachusetts Center for the Book
Massachusetts Center for the Book is the Commonwealth affiliate of the Library of Congress. Charged with developing, supporting, and promoting cultural programming to advance the cause of books, reading, and libraries across the state, MCB operates a range of literary and literacy programs in partnership with libraries, schools, bookstores, and community organizations across Massachusetts.
Massachusetts Center for the Book seeks a part-time, unpaid LIS512 student for the Fall 2024 semester (Sept.—Dec.) to work on its Mass Book Trails program, an interactive mapping and tourism project that traces the rich literary heritage of the state. The intern will work closely with the Center’s executive director to undertake a systematic review of the Book Trails program—evaluating content, user experience, the technical interface, program reach and marketing, and overall effectiveness. The intern will be asked to research comparable initiatives in other states and solicit feedback through interviews and surveys. The experience will culminate with the preparation of a report summarizing their findings.
The internship involves a minimum of 130 hours of field experience. The intern will work closely with the Center’s executive director to gain practical experience in non-profit management and program evaluation. Strong research, critical thinking, and writing skills preferred.
