Project Details
The University Archive at Lesley University is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student intern to assist with the organization, preservation, and digitization of archival materials. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in archival practices and contribute to the preservation of the university's historical records.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Archival Processing:
• Assist in the arrangement, description, and cataloging of archival collections.
• Prepare finding aids and inventories for archival materials.
2. Digitization:
• Scan and digitize photographs, documents, and other archival items.
• Assist in the development of metadata for digital collections.
3. Preservation:
• Perform basic preservation tasks, such as rehousing materials in acid-free folders and boxes.
• Assist in identifying and addressing preservation needs of fragile or damaged items.
4. Research Assistance:
• Assist researchers in accessing and using archival materials.
• Respond to reference inquiries under the supervision of archive staff.
5. Data Entry:
• Enter data into archival management systems and databases.
• Maintain accurate records of processed and digitized materials.
6. Outreach and Education:
• Assist in the preparation of exhibits and displays.
• Participate in outreach activities to promote the archive and its collections.

Requirements
• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student.
• Strong interest in history, library science, information management, or related fields.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Previous experience with archival work or digitization is a plus, but not required.
• Ability to lift and carry boxes of archival materials (up to 25 pounds).
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks, such as scanning and data entry, for extended periods.
• Strong interest in history, library science, information management, or related fields.
