Project Details
This position is ideal for a student who is interested in expanding their knowledge of collections surveying and assessment, as well as archival processing. Roughly 60% of this field experience will be spent surveying 40 boxes of previously unprocessed materials to be added to the Natalie Robins Collection, with training provided by JC Johnson. This involves appraising the materials, documenting the current condition of the collection, identifying preservation needs and concerns, analyzing the research value of the materials, and developing a processing plan.

Included in this phase is a collaborative assessment process with the digitization specialists from the Gotlieb Center’s sister department, Digital Ventures. The DV collaborative assessment is an opportunity to identify select items for digitization or reformatting, and to learn from professional archivists and cultural heritage digitization specialists how to approach an analog collection for digitization.

The student will spend the remaining time (40%) arranging and describing a discrete portion of the collection (2 boxes, or roughly 2.5 linear feet), with processing training provided by Katie Fortier.
