Project Details
The Data Management Training Clearinghouse (DMTC) is a collaborative platform developed as a curated data management learning resource discovery platform through which training materials on a wide range of topics can be found and accessed. While originally built through a collaboration between the USGS Community for Data Integration, DataONE, and the Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP), the platform was redeveloped between 2018-2022 with support of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and ESIP. Following the transition to the new platform in 2022, work has continued to develop a community of volunteer contributors to the DMTC who can add to its ongoing learning resource discovery, documentation, review and publication processes, and to the continued development of new platform capabilities. In support of our community development work, we seek a student who can work with our team to contribute in one or more areas of the DMTC:

Learn the methodology and workflow associated with the curation and creation of metadata (based on an expanded LRMI schema - https://www.dublincore.org/about/lrmi/) associated with learning resources that are added to the inventory of the Data Management Training Clearinghouse (DMTC hosted by Earth Science Information Partners - ESIP).

Identify learning resources that can be added to the DMTC based on its collection development policy and consult with supervisor and DMTC editor as necessary to assess the appropriate fit of the resource to the DMTC or suggest additions to the collection areas.

Create metadata to describe resources and enhance their discoverability, and submit the metadata content to the DMTC using the metadata input form.

Supplement metadata to existing learning resources in the DMTC per the rules for metadata creation.

Provide feedback and input on the usability and utility of the descriptive elements of the metadata input form to DMTC editors and developers based on the experience of its use.

This position is fully remote, but if the student lives nearby in Greater Boston, the project supervisor may be able to meet with them in-person (3 times over the course of the summer term max).
