Site Description
Noble and Greenough School, formerly Noble's Classical School, was an all boys’ day school founded in 1866 by George Washington Copp Noble. In 1892, Noble partnered with James Jay Greenough and the school became Noble and Greenough School. It remained a school for boys until 1974 when it became co-educational. Today, Noble and Greenough School, commonly known as Nobles, is a coeducational, nonsectarian day and five-day boarding school for students in grades seven through twelve.
The Noble and Greenough School Archives was established in 2009 with the goal of collecting and preserving material related to the school’s history. The Archives serves as the repository for the school’s administrative and educational records.
The Noble and Greenough School Archives aims to document the evolution of the school from 1866 to present; to support the teaching, research and public service objectives of the school; and to identify, collect, preserve and make available the collection to the extended Nobles community. The Archives currently holds records, photographs and artifacts from the school’s founding to the present including the papers from past Headmasters, deans, academic departments, administrative offices and student organizations. In addition, the archives holds various Nobles publications and a large photograph collection.
