Project Details
This project will involve processing the John W. Vinson papers. John W. Vinson (1916-1979), was an associate professor of microbiology at the Harvard School of Public Health from 1958-1979. He was the first scientist to cultivate certain strains of rickettsia, a microorganism responsible for trench fever, which eventually led to the development of a vaccine. The papers date from 1924-1979 and contain unpublished literature, publications, and reprints relating to microbiological diseases. There is also correspondence and grant records. The papers are stored in 3 boxes (2.4 cubic feet).
Under the supervisor of the processing archivist, the person in this role would survey the papers, develop a plan for processing the papers, arrange the papers according to the plan, and write a finding aid. The supervisor will support the intern in encoding the finding aid in EAD for publication online. The intern will be asked to write a short news post about their experience for the Center's website.
