Space Needs & Growth Assessment Project

Student will obtain an overview of the how our art collection is acquired over time, and will learn the various ways that art is and can be housed. Student will evaluate and record the current condition of housing and space usage in our storage vault, and calculate percentage of works on view, on loan, borrowed, permanent collection, etc. Additional analysis will include evaluation of housing and how many works are loose, matted, framed, etc. After data collection, student will analyze space available and compare to future needs, taking into account changes in housing to upgrade currently stored materials to ideal housing situation, and growth potential of acquisitions to project needs over 5, 10, 20 year periods. Final report may include suggestions on how to improve existing storage capacity, and plan for determining what parts of collection might be best suited to moving off site.
