Project Details
In consultation with the Archivist, interns will choose from several small collections or discrete series of materials to process. Currently available projects include a collection of a former staff member's files, a series of department records, a collection of children’s zines created by a former museum club, and a photographic series of 35mm slides produced by the community events team.

Interns will be given the opportunity to select which project complements personal research interests., Materials made available for intern processing will have been inventoried to ensure that materials are complete, do not contain sensitive information, are valuable enough for permanent retention, and are the appropriate size for completion in a 60-hour timeframe.

Are you willing to complete two evaluations of your students progress through out the course of the semester?
Yes
Requirements
Intern's processing of collections involves completing an initial survey and processing plan. Following review and approval by the Archivist, interns will arrange materials and complete necessary preservation actions. Finalized descriptions and locations will be added to an inventory spreadsheet and used to create a PDF finding aid.

As appropriate, in addition to the arrangement and description of physical records, projects may involve the digitization of materials. Digitization may include using a flatbed scanner or DSLR camera to create surrogates of records and creating appropriate metadata to describe resulting digital files.

Additionally, if interns are interested in digital preservation, some projects may incorporate or focus solely on processing digital collections.

Finally, if there are any outstanding required hours after the completion of the initial processing project, interns may be assigned additional tasks. These tasks may involve assisting in the inventory of newly accessioned materials and digitizing photographic materials as part of the ongoing processing of BCM’s photo collection.
