Archives Intern

In this position, the intern will work under the supervision of the library director and the library’s archivist to gain experience in an archives within a college library setting. The intern will assist with processing, arranging, and describing materials held at the Denison Library, including the creation and editing of finding aids and enhancing access to digital collections, in compliance with professional standards. The intern will engage with collections management and workflow tools used at Denison, including Aeon, ArchivesSpace, and CONTENTdm.

The intern will also participate in the Library’s regular activities to support the campus community, including reference requests, outreach efforts, and primary source instruction sessions. The Library also offers opportunities to learn more about rare books and special collections librarianship. In addition, the intern will also learn about the Denison’s daily operations and management, including its policies regarding collection development, DEIJ planning, facilities management, and disaster planning.

The specific goals for the course of the internship are:

• To further practice both archival processing, arrangement, and description in compliance with professional standards, working with records in analog and digital formats;
• To gain fluency in specific library and archives workflow and management tools;
• To build library, archives, and special collections management skills;
• To grow pedagogy and campus outreach experience within a college library setting;
• To build knowledge of rare books and special collections librarianship.
