Project Details
Under the direction of the Associate Manuscript Librarian, the intern will arrange and describe a manuscript collection, and create a finding aid compliant with the national standard Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS). The intern will work with their supervisor to intellectually and physically organize the material, apply appropriate preservation measures if needed, determine the correct subject and agent headings for the finding aid and library catalog record, and create a post for social media to promote the collection. Depending on time, and the student’s familiarity with archival management systems, the finding aid may be entered into ArchivesSpace, the Phillips Library repository of finding aids, for public access. This internship comes with a stipend.

Potential collections the intern might work with include but are not limited to: Burnham Family Papers, 1691-1860 (Fam. Mss. 129a); Salisbury, Massachusetts Town Records, 1638-1919 (EC 28); Samuel and Lemuel Fowler Papers, 1735-1828 (Fam. Mss. 340).
