Project Details
In 2024, Massachusetts Eye and Ear will celebrate its 200th anniversary. The hospital's Abraham Pollen Archives is hard at work preparing for a year of celebration and to meet the needs of users interested in engaging with the institution's rich history. During this field experience, the student will assist the archivist in a variety of archival work, with a likely focus on outreach activities (such as planning for two upcoming museum exhibits) and responding to an increasing volume of reference requests. Tasks may include research, writing, assisting with installing displays and exhibits, conducting basic preservation actions, and processing archival material as needs arise. The archivist is happy to work with the student to tailor the field experience to their interests, and the student will be included in meetings and training sessions whenever possible. This is a great opportunity for a student who wants to gain outreach experience with a small archives serving a large institution, or who is looking for a varied and flexible field experience!
