Site Description
Our beautifully renovated public library sits in the heart of our town. Sudbury’s founding history dates back to 1639, as do some of our materials in our local history collection. Recently added to the National Register of Historic Places, the Goodnow Library was established in 1862 and has tripled in size since, including a historical reading room, a gallery wing, childrens space and a makerspace.

Along with the general collection that a public library maintains, the Goodnow Library holds a sizeable special collection consisting of original documents, rare manuscripts, artifacts, photographs, paintings, and sculptures. Some of our notable collections include the George H Barton Collection (the founding president of the Boston Children’s Museum), the Rev. Israel Loring Papers (one of the town’s founding ministers), and the Dr. Thomas Stearns Collection (a collector of historic documents).
