Site Description
Steamship Historical Society of America (SSHSA) is a 501c3 non-profit located in Warwick, Rhode Island with a mission to record, preserve, and share the history of engine-powered vessels. Our collections comprise of hundreds of thousands of images, artifacts, ephemera, memorabilia, and artwork, as well as an extensive maritime reference library, documenting maritime history from the late 18th century to the present day. Our education program STEAMing Into The Future at www.shiphistory.org provides online resources, using primary source archival resources from SSHSA's collections and beyond, for teachers and students grades preK through 12.
The Collections Department provides reference and research to society members as well as the general public. We have assisted historians, students, genealogists, film producers, authors, ship engineers and architects. The department is managed by a full-time archivist and two part-time assistant archivists.
