Project Details
The project idea we're thinking about is creating a "New Arrivals" page (or pages) containing recently added materials in the BC Libraries. Here are a few examples from other libraries:

* ZSR Library at Wake Forest <https://zsr.wfu.edu/browse/new-books/>
* Lawrence Library in Pepperell <https://lawrencelibrary.org/resources/new-arrivals>
* Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America <https://guides.library.harvard.edu/c.php?g=1031168&p=7473554>

We want the page to be dynamic (updating at least daily) and visually compelling (covers!). The project would probably be build using HTML, CSS, and maybe some JavaScript using Hugo, the static site generation tool we use to build the BC Libraries site. We have an API that provides bibliographic information about new arrivals in JSON format, but we need to present that data on our site.

The project would break down into:

* gathering requirements and creating a design for the site (40 hrs)
* learning the BC website development workflow, including Hugo & Git (20 hours)
* implementing the page front-end (60 hours)
* documenting what we've done and how the new page works (10 hours)

Some of the technologies we'll work with include: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Git, Hugo, JSON APIs, and using live bibliographic and availability data. Coming in we'll expect the student to have some proficiency with HTML and CSS. We'll help out with learning the other tools.

The student would be part of a project team including me and at least one of our other Library Systems staff members. I'll be the project manager, and the student will be the lead developer. We have three developers on staff who will be able to help with questions or advice.
