Project Details
In this internship, the student will assist on the Nuremberg Trials Project, an open-access initiative to create and present digitized images and full-text versions of HLSL's documents relating to the thirteen war-crimes trials held at Nuremberg, Germany 1945-1949. The project consists of assembling documents from page images and then creating basic descriptive document metadata for the English-language prosecution documents for Trial no. 10 (prosecution of the Krupp industrial complex).

The work consists of two phases: 1. methodically proceeding through our online archive of image pages for each document, determining which images define the beginning and ending of the document and the pages in between, and entering the image names into an online pre-formatted Google spreadsheet, and 2. entering into a a pre-formatted Google spreadsheet the document's literal title, its author, its creation date, its document no. and the no. of page images entered in step 1. All work will be done remotely using two tools: 1. our online image-viewer for our archived page images, and 2. a Google spreadsheet for the entered metadata. The online images are organized in proper sequence, so that all the images in order will be found for the first document, followed by all the images in order for the second document, etc. The metadata being recorded usually can all be found on the first page image of the document. It is not necessary to read the document, simply inspect the first page (and very occasionally other pages) and extract the mentioned metadata.

The student will report to the Nuremberg project manager. On-boarding and check-ins as needed with the project manager will be scheduled via Zoom.
