Project Details
The Tom Jones Photography Collection consists of both his personal studio work as well as his contract work for Maine Times. The two collections need to be separated out as the Maine Times material will join the work of two other contract photographers (yet to be donated) as one larger/complete collection.

In all, there are 17 plastic totes of negatives, slides and various sized prints and one cart of oversized prints. The studio materials need to be weeded and organized/arranged. There are also some client files which require some evaluation and arrangement (undetermined if these files are comprehensive or only represent a small portion of his work). Jones's studio work contains a combination of studio portraits/photographs, candid shots, aerial and landscape work and more. Arrangement of the collection, by topic, date, client etc. will need to be determined and executed by the intern. There are a significant amount of duplicates within the collection--heavy weeding is needed. A finding aid will need to be created to guide researchers through the collection. Time likely will not allow for an item-level guide, but a more in-depth to the collection guide will be needed in order for the collection to be useful. If time allows, some of the photos may be digitized and cataloged on the Maine Memory Network.

If time allows, some arrangement or weeding of the materials related to Jones's work for the Maine Times would be excellent, but a full processing of this portion of the collection probably needs to wait until the work of the other two photographers has been donated to MHS.
