Project Details
student will process the collection of slides at Boston CSJ Archives. These are preliminarily organized but need metadata creation in preparation for sending to Digital Commonwealth (program of the Boston Public Library) to be digitized and shared publicly. Metadata will follow Dublin Core standards and be entered onto an excel sheet, entirely by the student. Additional volunteers with institutional knowledge (sisters who are members of the congregation) will help the student with identifying names and places which the student may be unable to recognize.
There are likely well over 1,000 slides in this collection, preserving images of every day life of the sisters throughout the 1960s, 1970s and potentially later. Student will need to go through and decide what is able to be shared and what is not archival (there are some PowerPoint presentations copied on these slides). If finished, student will connect with the Digital Commonwealth to being the process of sharing these slides - a good opportunity to reach out to the organization.
Additional work, should time allow, includes assisting an audio digitization grant that is underway: uploading snippets or oral history interviews onto Omeka with their metadata, creating ways of giving more physical access to exhibiting the oral histories to the sisters, etc.
