Arranging and Describing Architectural and Engineering Plans from the Massachusetts DCR Plans Library Collection

As part of the Commonwealth’s Future of Work initiative, Massachusetts state agencies are transitioning to largely digital records systems. As a result, DCR is undertaking a comprehensive digitization project for the architectural and engineering plans held in the Plans Library. Under supervision of Plans Library staff, the intern will arrange and describe architectural and engineering drawings to prepare them for the scanning project. The plans illustrate bridges, parkways, flood control projects, land ownership, buildings, landscapes, and recreational facilities located in or around state parks, forests, and reservations in Massachusetts. After an orientation explaining DCR arrangement practices and techniques for handling and housing large-format materials, the intern will arrange and folder plans by set, label the folders, and create a set-level electronic index of the plans in an Excel spreadsheet. Interns may work at DCR Monday through Friday between 9am and 4pm with potential for some telework.
