Project Details
This experience will help the intern develop a thorough understanding of how the Children’s Library functions; there will be a particular focus on the programming and collection development work that happens here. The intern will observe the professional duties of the children's librarians (planning and running programs, conducting reference interactions, organizing and managing the collection, etc.) and will also have time to work on individual projects and interview library staff across the system to gain a more holistic view of children’s services at BPL.
Potential projects include evaluating a section of the collection, planning hypothetical one-off programs, and outlining a hypothetical series of programs or outreach events. If programming is of particular interest, the intern will review information about childhood development and discuss practical applications for that information in order to develop the types of programs that are appropriate, relevant, and useful for particular age groups.
