The project will involve processing a collection of records relating to the Shepard-Gill School of Practical Nursing. These records were partially processed by a previous intern, and there are about 6 record cartons of material.
The Shepard-Gill School of Practical Nursing of Massachusetts General Hospital was a nursing school specializing in “practical nursing,” a kind of nursing which required less formal training than a registered nurse. Founded in 1918, the schools’ mission was to provide inexpensive in-home care to middle class families. The curriculum included classes on cooking, cleaning, and basic nursing skills. In 1970, the school became incorporated with Massachusetts General Hospital when the state began to require all nursing to be associated with hospitals and with a license. The school closed in 1984.
There would also be an opportunity to help with related remote projects in the archives, such as creating subject guides to our collections.

Requirements
MGH HR background check (includes CORI check), proof of COVID vaccination (primary series and one booster) and flu shot vaccination (compliance with flu shot requirement isn't required to start, but will be required by the end of the semester). Interns may be required to attest to their COVID/symptom status every day they work on site.
