Technical Services Project

The goal of this project is to provide hands-on experience to the various tasks and functions of a technical services unit. The main focus will be on monograph cataloging using MARC21, RDA, FAST (subject analysis and application) and cataloging resources such as ClassWeb and Cataloger’s Desktop. Cataloging will be performed applying cataloging software such as ALMA (LSP used at Harvard) and Connexion. Other cataloging resources that may be introduced include MarcEdit and OpenRefine. A secondary metadata focus will be using Wikidata to create entities for the Wikidata Nuremberg Project. The project involves working with scans of Nuremberg Trials documents as the source of entities creation. In addition to Wikidata, the incumbent will be introduced to identifiers such as Name authorities (NAF), VIAF, and ISNI.
