The Digital Archives Intern will work on archival collections at the Center for Lowell History at UML. The project supervisor, Nikki Tantum, splits her time between her positions as the Archivist for the Portuguese American Digital Archive (PADA) and as the Archives Strategist for the Center for Lowell History (CLH). This intern will assist on assignments across both projects.

If you are interested in digital or community-focused archives, this internship is for you! The Center for Lowell History focuses on collecting items from all parts of Lowell's rich and culturally-diverse city community. Currently, CLH is hosting the Portuguese American Digital Archive project, which is a three-year, grant-funded project to preserve the history of Portuguese Americans in the Greater Boston area. Many of the items involved in this project may use the Portuguese language, but knowledge of the language is not required. Working on this project will provide a unique look into the day-to-day function of a community archive and will provide an introduction to the special needs and considerations of working within a specific community.

The Digital Archives intern will work on creating/updating finding aids, digitizing items, and creating metadata. Although this position is focused on the digital side of archives, there will be the opportunity to work with physical collections within CLH's archives.
