Project Details
The New Bedford Whaling Museum is currently seeking an intern to process a small scale archival collection (less than 5 linear feet). Finished products will include a processed collection complete with a finding aid. The Museum can currently accommodate two in person interns for the fall semester and two remote interns. The two available in person internships will consist of arranging and describing a collection of papers with relevance to the region and/or its maritime roots. The two remote projects are slightly different in scope. The first remote project consists of a collection of digitized diaries in need of a finding aid. The digitized diaries can be shared with the intern who can download the content and work on the finding aid using the digitized content in lieu of the actual diaries. The second remote project consists of cataloging logbooks. The Museum has a set of digitized logbooks in need of MARC records. The logbooks are digitized at very high resolution and can be shared with the intern remotely. The intern would read through the log entries and write a MARC record for inclusion in the Museum's database. The contents of the digitized logbook would then be uploaded to the Internet Archive using the metadata from the MARC record as its descriptive information.
