Local History Department

The Peabody Institute Library Local History Department is housed in the Sutton Room (est. 1869), where rare books and archives that pertain to the area's regional history are collected, stored, arranged, and made available to public patrons for research. The archives keeps a variety of items such as city ledgers, institutional records, rare manuscripts and correspondence, A/V media, maps, original art, historical artifacts, and ephemera. Research in the Sutton Room is available by appointment, although the room is also open to host Library programs as needed. The secure connected office is used to process collections.
