This work can be done remotely. With the help of an IMLS grant, the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden Archive is transitioning to a new digital asset management system and recently migrated over 85,000 photographic assets. The migration allowed us to keep all of our existing metadata, but there is a great deal of data clean-up and creation involved in making our assets accessible to our users.
Clean-up work could include: correcting and standardizing metadata specific to location, date, subject, and content type; searching for duplicate images/entries; editing special characters; assessing images appropriate for public versus internal viewing.
Data creation work could include: adding alt text to images for ADA compliance; adding metadata specific to location, date, and subject to enhance searchability; researching image dates and inputting that data; standardizing use of subject headings and inputting that data.

I am available Monday-Friday 9am-5pm PST, and can do my best to be available after hours when needed. I am typically not available Mondays and Fridays after 5pm during the fall and spring. I understand that students are expected to start work the week of February 16, but I am available to start with them sooner if they would like.
