Seeklight & BU News

This project is part of our partnership with JSTOR’s Seeklight experimental AI metadata project. The student would work on a project at Digital Ventures with Amanda Fowler as her supervisor. We have already digitized 54 volumes of BU News, the University’s historical student newspaper, and the first 14 volumes are already in our Digital Library with minimal descriptive metadata, with the remainder of the issues going through a QC process and being ingested as we go. We are going to push the images through Seeklight in the hopes of adding subject and name authority terms to the individual issues’ records. That metadata also needs to be carefully reviewed and reformatted for Islandora, old issues will need to be edited and new issues ingested, and the new workflow for vetting and reformatting the metadata will need to be designed and documented. We also will provide opportunities to shadow us and other BU Libraries staff whose jobs are of interest, and they will be involved in as many meetings and office activities as possible to get a broad picture of academic library work
